5 Quick Newborn Photography Tips | Birth Announcement Photos

If you're like me, when my son was born, you want to have a great picture of your new pride and joy to send to all of your friends and family. Sending a photo birth announcement is a great way to do this! Below are a few tips that I've found to be helpful when taking pictures of my son and other babies, to get the perfect birth announcement shot.

ZOOM IN! Some of the most precious pictures are closeups of the infant's tiny feet and hands and of course those gorgeous shots of the baby's face closeup. If the baby is awake, zooming on the face with adequate lighting accentuates the sparkle in the baby's eye.
ISOLATE one body part of your baby's hands. As mentioned above, this can make for a beautiful photo, since it emphasizes just how tiny those cute baby parts are. To accentuate this even more, include the parents' hands or fingers in the photos too.

GET DOWN on the baby's level. This creates a perspective almost from the baby's point of view. A look into their world is one of the ways to get a really unique photograph. You could try this during tummy time to get some cute expressions or even get some unhappy expressions, which are cute too.
POSE! You can get some lovely shots of the baby when they are posed. It's easiest to do this when the newborn is asleep or very sleepy and some sort of prop is a good idea. Some cute ideas are to have a stack of white fluffy towels and place the baby on it's tummy. I've also seen a picture like this where a big satin ribbon is tied around the stack of towels and around the baby. Adorable! A simple basket with a nice soft blanket is a good idea too. Another creative picture I've seen is placing a baby in an old travel trunk with a large, colorful blanket inside to cradle the baby while the baby is sleeping. Be creative!
KEEP the CAMERA CLOSE BY! Babies can be predictable as far as their routine is concerned, feeding, sleeping, pooping, however, there are the moments that we WISH we had the camera handy. If you have more than one camera, try to have one in the room where you are most often, which for me is my living room, and maybe a camera in other rooms you may go; the baby's room or your bedroom. You will be able to capture those sweet smiles and facial expressions, wherever you are.
